PLANNING FOR THE INAUGURAL BCS VOLLEYBALL CLASSIC by Courtney Fegter

As we’ve been navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic we’ve learned to make adjustments. We’ve adjusted to working remotely. We’ve helped event planners adjust their plans by helping them reschedule their events. And soon, as we host our first post-pandemic event, we’ll help planners, participants, and spectators alike adjust to the new normal.

During all these adjustments, many things have stayed the same. It has at times been difficult to look beyond the next day or the next week, let alone the next month or two. But one glance at a calendar reminds us that time isn’t standing still, and events that are scheduled for the fall and beyond, are quickly approaching. One such event, is our upcoming BCS Volleyball Classic.

Scheduled for August 20-22, this high school volleyball tournament is preparing for its inaugural season. When we decided to launch such a tournament, we did so because we wanted to build upon our successful high school girls basketball tournament, the Aggieland Invitational. We recognized a lack of volleyball tournaments in our area, and soon sought after finding the best talent in the state of Texas and bringing them here to the BCS community.

That’s still our plan, we’ve just had to make some adjustments along the way.

We’re still striving to become the best volleyball tournament in Texas. We’re still looking to bring as many teams as possible to BCS in year one. We’re still inviting teams to register here! For questions about the tournament, please don’t hesitate to reach out by calling our office at (979) 260-9898.

We’re also working with teams to make sure they can attend, and that travel concerns don’t get in the way of competition. We’re monitoring UIL and TAPPS guidelines regarding a return to competition in the fall. And, of course, we’re monitoring county, state, and federal guidelines in regards to reopening and operating procedures.

As part of the student-athlete experience, we have been working closely with Texas A&M Volleyball in hopes to provide participants the opportunity to catch an open practice or potentially even a match. We continue to work on these logistical details, as Texas A&M navigates through their own NCAA regulations in regards to a return to play.

Our goal remains the same for this tournament – launch a fun, exciting, and extremely competitive volleyball tournament for our community. We’re planning for everything to go as originally planned, but if it doesn’t, we’ll just make another adjustment.
